terres, flottaient des bois dans la Gadmenaare, travaillaient chez eux sur leurs m\u00e9tiers \u00e0 tisser, chassaient, fauchaient le foin, cherchaient des cristaux et sculptaient des objets utiles en bois. Au 19e si\u00e8cle, la vie dans le Gadmental \u00e9tait marqu\u00e9e par la pauvret\u00e9. En 1880, 759 personnes vivaient l\u00e0, r\u00e9parties dans cinq hameaux. La situation \u00e9conomique ne permettait pas d\u2019aller de l\u2019avant, et la faim et la mis\u00e8re faisaient partie du quotidien de beaucoup. Les terres cultivables \u00e9taient limit\u00e9es dans cette vall\u00e9e \u00e9troite. Et en cas de partage d\u2019h\u00e9ritage, les champs et les p\u00e2turages se divisaient en parcelles de plus en plus petites \u2013 elles ne parvenaient donc plus gu\u00e8re \u00e0 nourrir les familles.<\/p><p class=\"ffb-id-6ntlcdop fg-paragraph text-left    fg-text-dark\">Il y a eu plusieurs vagues d\u2019\u00e9migration dans la r\u00e9gion. La premi\u00e8re, de grande ampleur, a d\u00e9marr\u00e9 au d\u00e9but du 18e si\u00e8cle, pour des raisons essentiellement religieuses et politiques. La vague qui a eu lieu entre 1870 et 1930, en revanche, concernait principalement des migrants \u00e9conomiques qui esp\u00e9raient trouver une vie meilleure ailleurs. \u00c0 cette \u00e9poque, Gadmen a connu plus de 150 faillites en l\u2019espace de trois ans seulement. Des familles d\u00e9sesp\u00e9r\u00e9es se sont endett\u00e9es aupr\u00e8s d\u2019hommes d\u2019affaires du village et se sont retrouv\u00e9es dans des situations critiques \u2013 elles n\u2019avaient plus aucune chance de rembourser leurs emprunts. Il ne leur restait donc plus qu\u2019\u00e0 fuir vers un avenir incertain dans un pays \u00e9tranger.<\/p><\/div><div class=\"ffb-id-6ntflv1d fg-col col-xs-12 col-md-2
