Johann et Rosina T\u00e4nnler-von Weissenfluh sont en train de pr\u00e9parer leur chalet d\u2019alpage et leur petite auberge sur la Steinalp pour l\u2019hiver lorsque le travail commence de mani\u00e8re inattendue. Comme les gar\u00e7ons et filles de ferme sont d\u00e9j\u00e0 en bas dans la vall\u00e9e, le patron se pr\u00e9cipite lui-m\u00eame pour aller chercher la sage-femme. Mais lorsqu\u2019il revient enfin, Rosina tient d\u00e9j\u00e0 dans ses bras sa fille qui vient de na\u00eetre. C\u2019est ainsi que Rosa T\u00e4nnler voit le jour, le 8 septembre 1879.<\/p><p class=\"ffb-id-6n9kcdsv fg-paragraph text-left    fg-text-dark\">La famille T\u00e4nnler est respect\u00e9e, et elle exploite \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque, en plus de l\u2019auberge de Steinalp, le \u00abB\u00e4ren\u00bb \u00e0 Gadmen. Les voyageurs aiment s\u2019y arr\u00eater, les habitants du coin s\u2019y rencontrent, jouent au jass, bavardent et font la f\u00eate. Certains ont des dettes aupr\u00e8s de l\u2019aubergiste, \u00e0 cause de leur penchant pour la boisson ou d\u2019une situation \u00e9conomique difficile \u2013 il est une institution, \u00e0 la fois ami et ennemi, il pr\u00eate de l\u2019argent et fonctionne comme une sorte de banque.<\/p><p class=\"ffb-id-6n9kcdt0 fg-paragraph text-left    fg-text-dark\">Originaire d\u2019Innertkirchen, Johann T\u00e4nnler (1849 - 1928) est initialement armurier et ne vient \u00e0 Gadmen qu\u2019\u00e0 la suite de son mariage avec Rosina (1855 - 1918). Il y exploite \u00e9galement une scierie et une entreprise agricole. Rosa grandit avec une s\u0153ur et trois fr\u00e8res, fr\u00e9quente l\u2019\u00e9cole du village et obtient presque toujours la meilleure note dans toutes les mati\u00e8res. Les langues \u00e9trang\u00e8res sont importantes en raison du tourisme naissant, et les T\u00e4nnler peuvent se permettre cette formation et les d\u00e9penses suppl\u00e9mentaires qu\u2019elle repr\u00e9sente, m\u00eame pour une fille. Pendant cette p\u00e9riode, Rosa vit chez un ami de son p\u00e8re, un certain Fritz von Almen. On perd ensuite sa trace en Suisse romande; certains indices laissent penser qu\u2019elle a s\u00e9journ\u00e9 dans un internat, mais rien ne permet de le confirmer. Quoi qu\u2019il en soit, l\u2019adolescente retourne dans sa famille \u00e0 Gadmen en 1894, pour sa neuvi\u00e8me ann\u00e9e d\u2019\u00e9cole.<\/p><p class=\"ffb-id-6n9emjjk fg-paragraph text-left    fg-text-dark\">Comme il \u00e9tait d\u2019usage \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque, les enfants T\u00e4nnler aident \u00e9galement dans les deux auberges ainsi que sur les alpages. Le p\u00e8re T\u00e4nnler est un travailleur infatigable, il utilise ses mains et sa t\u00eate et g\u00e8re toutes ces diff\u00e9rentes entreprises en parall\u00e8le. Dans ses jeunes ann\u00e9es, il aimait franchir les cols \u00e0 pied pour se rendre en Italie, o\u00f9 il faisait commerce de moutons. En tant que p\u00e8re de famille, il inculque \u00e0 ses enfants l\u2019honn\u00eatet\u00e9 et l\u2019int\u00e9grit\u00e9 \u2013 c\u2019est ce que l\u2019on peut lire dans sa n\u00e9crologie, publi\u00e9e dans la \u00abBerner Woche\u00bb en juillet 1928.<\/p><p class=\"ffb-id-6n9emjjl fg-paragraph text-left    fg-text-dark\" id=\"wirtstochter2\">Apr\u00e8s l\u2019\u00e9cole obligatoire, Rosa se forme \u00e0 la couture de blanc. Dans cet artisanat, les femmes fabriquent divers articles en tissu blanc, comme des nappes, des draps ou des jambi\u00e8res. \u00c0 cela s\u2019ajoute \u00e9galement la broderie. La jeune femme travaille ensuite \u00e0 l\u2019h\u00f4tel Engstlenalp, o\u00f9 elle apprend \u00e0 cuisiner et \u00e0 s\u2019occuper des clients. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 ces connaissances, elle est la mieux plac\u00e9e pour assumer la responsabilit\u00e9 de l\u2019auberge de Steinalp.
